چکیده

Abstract Background The red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a serious threat to date palms across the globe, causing heavy yield losses. pest inflicts damage stem and destroys vascular system; resultantly lower vigor affect growth yield. For ecological farming system, biological control of gaining increased interest due hosts’ specificity, safety human, animal non-target organisms, their compatibility environment. Results In laboratory assay, Beauveria bassiana, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki ( Bt-k ) alone in combination against sixth instar larvae adults four distinct populations RPW were applied. H. was more effective, followed by B. bassiana treatments. While combined treatments, highest mortality recorded for + (100% both stages), , (larvae 100%; 94.24%) treatments (larvae: 87.01%; adults: 80.53%). Maximum rate mycosis 85.74%; 69.07%), sporulation 189.22 conidia ml −1 ; 164.56 ), cadavers affected nematodes 92.4%; 81.29%) nematode production 178.78 IJs 153.44 observed where or applied lowest 122.78 103.22 combination. Conclusions Entomopathogens can be effectively used and/or integration populations. Natural capability entomopathogens infect disseminate into other hosts makes them excellent biocontrol agents incorporated IPM plan make growers confident with use most promising microbial agents.

Susceptibility and Immune Defence Mechanisms of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) against Entomopathogenic Fungal Infections

Insects infected with entomopathogenic fungi, experience physiological changes that influence their growth and immune defence. The potential of nine isolates of entomopathogenic fungi was evaluated after determining percent germination and relative conidial hydrophobicity. However, nutritional indices were evaluated after immersing eighth-instar Rhynchophorus ferrugineus larvae into each isolat...

Identification of pigmented Serratia marcescens symbiotically associated with Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

To characterize red pigment-producing bacteria (RPPB) regularly released during oviposition by red palm weevil (RPW), RPPB were recovered from eggs deposited in apples supplied as substrate for oviposition. The presence of RPPB was also detected from gut, the reproductive apparatus of dissected adult and virgin insects and from pupal cases collected within infested palms. RPPB were also identif...

Digestive proteases during development of larvae of red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae).

The evolution of digestive proteases during larval development of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) has been studied. A progressive increase of protease activity has been found. The optimum pH for proteolytic activity against azocasein was determined. Caseinograms revealed an active complex of alkaline proteases from the early stages of the development. From the apparent molecular masse...

Transcriptome analysis of Phoenix canariensis Chabaud in response to Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier attacks

UNLABELLED Red Palm Weevil (RPW, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier) threatens most palm species worldwide. Until now, no studies have analyzed the gene regulatory networks of Phoenix canariensis (Chabaud) in response to RPW attacks. The aim of this study was to fill this knowledge gap. Providing this basic knowledge is very important to improve its management. RESULTS A deep transcriptome ana...

Synonymy of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier), 1790 and R. vulneratus (Panzer), 1798 (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Rhynchophorinae)

Morphological, molecular-genetic and breeding data were collected to investigate the species status of the Asian palm weevils, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) and R. vulneratus (Panzer) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). These weevils are distinguished by characteristic colouring of the pronota and elytra, but naturally occurring colour intermorphs were observed. Contrary to the literature, quant...
